Port Arthur Gun Show

This past weekend, Bodon sponsored the Port Arthur Gun Show at the Bob Bower Convention Center. Sunday afternoon I dropped by to check out the goodies. As usual, the NRA had their booth set out front signing up members. With the possibility of Obama being the Democrat nominee, we better unite as NRA members and defeat this threat to gun ownership in America. All in all, it was a descent gun show for Port Arthur, obvious nothing compared to the Houston Gun Collectors Association gun show at the Reliant Park in Houston. Lots of locals with tables set up to sell their merchandise. Nothing much in new guns, Bartlett Guns from Dallas had new guns but a limited selection, about 30 new guns in all at his booth. Bartlett had the best prices on FireStorm pistols that I've ever seen. FireStorm is the same as a Bersa and he was priced $50 less than Academy on the 9mm, .40 and .45 caliber models. Jerry McDaniel from Kirbyville with Texas Outdoor Sports had bunches of Marlin rifles and cowboy pistols rigs. It was good talking to Jerry and catching up on the happenings in Kirbyville. The Lumberton boys were there, Christopher and Robert Hawn with Hawn's Gunsmithing. They had a slew of magazines for sell. Some new guys from Lumberton were handing out fliers for Lone Star Indoor Gun Range on Hwy. 69 across from the fireworks place. They have five 25 yard pistol lanes and are opened Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m- 7 p.m.
I met a fellow from Houston that was interesting to talk with. Mark Robinson, a Houston private investigator and owner of Great Guns & Sporting Goods, is an avid hog hunter and had a Ruger Blackhawk hog gun strapped to his leg.

One thing that crossed my mind while cruising the aisles at the gun show, not much selling going on. No new or used guns being sold. Is this a sign of the economy in Southeast Texas? The table with the most activity was a Houston man selling cheap Chinese made tasers, the Fire Dragon, billed as the poor-man's taser. He was selling them starting at $50.

I got out of the gun show without spending much money, bought a hot dog, a range bag and a Sig magazine. The Port Arthur gun show will be back in September and I'll check them out again.
