Bersa Ultra Compact 9 mm Pistol

As everyone knows, I'm a Sig Sauer fan, probably the best guns on the market
in my own opinion, but sometimes you have to change in your old age. This weekend, I went to visit an old friend in Houston and we ventured out to the Hot Wells Shooting Range off of Hwy. 290. I brought along my Sig 226 to fire at the range but Dale brought his Glock 17, Glock 26 and Bersa Ultra Compact 9mm.
I had the opportunity to shoot all of Dale's guns and it was more than enjoyable. But the one that really caught my attention was the Bersa UC-9. Excellent function and I loved the feel of the gun. For a compact it shoots very easily, helped obviously by being 9mm. When carrying concealed, I usually pack the Colt Commander or Sig 229. Both are excellent guns but tend to be on the heavy side especially during summer months and the need not to print. Later I put on Dale's Galco IWB holster with the Bersa UC-9 and couldn't tell it was on my body. This pistol is made in Argentina and has a reputation as being a dependable personal defense weapon. The magazine holds 13 rounds, so that is a good start in any gun battle considering you are carrying a spare magazine. I especially like that it is DA/SA, has ambidextrous decocker and magazine release can be changed for the south paw shooter. Nice white outline rear sights with a large white dot front sight for easy and fast
alignment. At 23 ozs., the Bersa is only 3 ozs. heavier than the baby Glock, which isn't a problem for me. Plus the Bersa is about $150 cheaper than the baby Glock, money well saved to spend on a good holster and ammunition.

Now here is the problem, after deciding that I would purchase one, I stopped at three Academy stores in Houston on Saturday
and none are to be found. Today I checked with the Port Arthur and Beaumont Academy stores and again the same,
none available and don't know when they will get them. After checking some of the gun forums, it appears that this is a hot selling pistol and dealers can't keep them in stock. I will wait until the next gun show in Houston or locally and see if I can find one then.

Difference Between Katrina and Mid-West Floods

Is it just me? Watch the flooding in the Midwest, have you noticed that there are no farmers running around with stolen plasma TVs or holding stolen liquor over their heads. There's no looting or yelling "Where's
Bush?", "Where's FEMA?, Where's my check?", or "Why isn't
the Government out here saving me and my farm?"
Likewise, I've also noticed there are no reports of any other country coming
to help or sending aid. And where are the liberal Hollywood actors and actresses?
Maybe some Americans pull themselves up from the boot straps and get to work when a disater hits. Shocking contrast isn't it.

Everyone have a safe weekend.

Supreme Court Decision on D.C. v. Heller

Today the United States Supreme Court made the right decision in The District of Columbia v. Heller case. Probably the best summary of all of this is an article by Stephen P. Halbrook, an attorney and research fellow at the Independent Institute in Oakland, Calif. ( www.independent.org), is author of "The Founders' Second Amendment: Origins the Right to Bear Arms." Please read what he writes and you will find he sums it all up in a nutshell.

Founders shoot holes in gun rights distortions
Anticipating the U.S. Supreme Court's expected late June decision in District of Columbia v. Heller, which will decide the constitutionality of a District of Columbia law restricting gun-ownership rights, many analysts have turned to the Founders' writings in an effort to understand the Second Amendment.

What analysts need to do -- recognizing that language and word usage change over time -- is turn to America's first dictionary.

The Second Amendment states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

The Supreme Court questioned whether the D.C. statue "violate(d) the Second Amendment rights of individuals who are not affiliated with any state-regulated militia, but who wish to keep handguns and other firearms for private use in their homes."

For the answer, turn to Noah Webster.

Known as the "Father of American Scholarship and Education," Webster defined all the words in the Second Amendment. He published "A Compendious Dictionary of the English Language" in 1806 and "An American Dictionary of the English Language," published in 1828 and adopted by Congress as the American standard.

"People" were "the commonality, as distinct from men of rank," and "right" was "just claim; immunity; privilege." "All men have a right to secure enjoyment of life, personal safety, liberty and property," he wrote.

Thus in the language of Webster's time, "the people" meant individuals and individuals have "rights."

"Keep" was defined as "To hold; to retain one's power or possession; not to lose or part with ... To have in custody for security or preservation"; "Bear" as "to carry" or "to wear; name; to bear arms in a coat"; and "Arms" were defined as "weapons of offense, or armor for defense and protection of the body."

Only civilians would "bear arms in a coat" -- soldiers carried muskets in their hands, while officers carried pistols in holsters.

So the words "keep and bear arms" suggest a right to hand-held arms as a person could "bear," such as muskets, pistols and swords, but not cannon and heavy ordnance that a person could not carry.

"Infringe" was defined by Webster as "to violate, either positively by contravention, or negatively by non-fulfillment or neglect of performance."

"Militia" was defined as "able bodied men organized into companies, regiments and brigades, with officers ... and required by law to attend military exercises on certain days only, but at other times left to pursue their usual occupations" and "regulated" as "subject to rules or restrictions." A well-regulated militia consisted of civilians, not soldiers.

What about the phrase "being necessary to the security of a free State?"

"Necessary" was defined as "that must be; that cannot be otherwise; indispensably requisite"; "Security" as "protection; effectual defense or safety from danger of any kind..." and "free" as "In government, not enslaved; not in a state of vassalage or dependence; subject only to fixed laws, made by consent, and to a regular administration of such laws; not subject to arbitrary will of a sovereign or lord."

"State" was defined as "A political body, or body politic; the whole body of people united under one government, whatever may be the form of government... ." A free state, we must conclude encompasses the entire body politic.

During most of our history, an exhaustive analysis of the Second Amendment would never have been necessary. The meaning of each word would have been obvious to citizens of the time.

It was only in the late 20th century that an Orwellian view of the Second Amendment gained currency. Within this distorted language prism, "the people" would come to mean the states or state-conscripted militia; "right" would mean governmental power; "keep" would no longer entail custody for security or preservation; "bear" would not mean carry; "arms" would not include ordinary handguns and rifles, and "infringe" would not include prohibition.

The Founders worded the Second Amendment in an easy-to-understand manner. Individuals have a right to have arms in their houses and to carry them for protection, and the government may not violate that right.

Modern contortions of language can't change that meaning because we can still refer to Noah Webster.

Best Father's Day Gift- DeWalt Nail Gun

I'm back from a long weekend in the Dallas area. We went to visit Gary and his family, great to see all of them.
Gasoline was about a nickel higher in north Texas compared to southeast Texas. Just glad to be back home and get some
rest after the long drive.

Gary gave me my Father's Day gift, since he works at Foxworth-Galbraith, he gets a 10% employee discount. He gave me the new DeWalt nail gun (see photo above). It can drive a 6-D nail thru a 2 X 4 at 200 yards. This makes construction a real breeze, you can sit in your lawn chair and build a fence. Just get the wife and kids or mother-in-law to hold the fence boards in place while you sit back, relax with a cold beer, and when they have the board in the right place, just fire away. With the hundred round magazine, you can build a fence with a minimum of reloading. After a day of fence building with the new Dewalt Rapid Fire Nail Gun, the wife will not ask you to fix or build anything else ever again.

Ok, this really wasn't the gift but he did give me a new DeWalt nail gun, just a different model.

Obama is Arab-American, Not African-American

Friends, this email has been circulating the internet and it is true. Makes you think about what you want in your next president.

Barack Hussein Obama is not half black. If elected, he would be the first Arab-American President, not the first black President. Barack Hussein Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother's side and 43.75% Arabic and 6.25% African Negro from his father's side. While Barack Hussein Obama's father was from Kenya, his father's family was mainly Arabs. Barack Hussein Obama's father was only 12.5% African Negro and 87.5% Arab (his father's birth certificate even states he's Arab, not African Negro).

What does this mean? Maybe nothing. But, why is Obama trying to hide this? Why does he try to hide is middle name? Why does he try to hide the religious Muslim school he attented as a child in Indonesia? Why doesn't he set the record straight that he wouldn't be the first black President? Why so many cover-ups and hiding of the truth?

Have a good weekend, be safe and don't forget to watch your backside while out and about.

Texas Security Alarm System

This is the ideal alarm system without paying monthly monitoring fees to an alarm company. Everything needed is available at your local Wal-mart store.

1. Go to a second-hand store and buy a pair of men's work boots, used, size 14-16. $2.00
2. Place them on your front porch, along with a copy of Guns & Ammo Magazine. Magazine - $3.00
3. Put a few giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazine. $5.00
4. Leave a note on your door that reads:

Hey Bubba, Big Jim, Duke and Slim: I went for more shotgun shells and to pick my check up from the slaughterhouse. I should be back in an hour.. Don't mess with the Pit Bulls--don't know what got into them, but they attacked the mailman this morning and messed him up real bad. I don't think Killer took part in it but it was hard to tell from all the blood. Anyway, I locked all four of 'em i n the house.

Better wait out here on the porch.

Obama is like a Post Turtle

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old Texas rancher, whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his bid to be our President.

The old rancher said, "Well, ya know, Obama is a 'post turtle'." Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a 'post turtle' was. The old rancher said, "When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle'."

The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain. "You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he is up there, and you just wonder what kind of a dumb ass put him up there!."

Jim Crow and James Byrd are Dead

Jim Crow and James Bryd are both dead, so can't we just move along. Obama is making a big deal out of racial healing and again the whites are made to feel guilty with the 10th anniversary of the James Byrd dragging. It's back in the news, James Byrd was murdered 10 years ago by 3 white trash idiots, but I wasn't there
taking part in it. So don't blame me! About 100 people attended a ceremony at the James Byrd Memorial Park on the 10th anniversary of his death
but where was Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Did Jesse come blowing back into Jasper like he did when this incident happened? NO!

Enough is enough, I'm sick and tired of being made guilty of something I didn't do. I never owned a black slave and my ancestors were too
poor to own any slaves, so stop blaming me. I didn't drag James Byrd behind a pickup truck back in 1998, so stop blaming me.
You can call me a honky, cracker or white dude, I really don't care, words don't offend me.

Before you brand me as a racist, lets get this straight, I'm NOT a racist. I just want to point out that Jim Crow and James Bryd are dead and I can't do
anything to change the past, so get over it.

China Stealing U.S. Oil Reserves

Yes, that’s right, China is stealing our oil! China and Cuba are actively exploring oil fields fifty miles from Key West, Florida while U.S. companies are barred from working in this area because of U.S. policy and former Gov. Jeb Bush. So,instead of allowing the most environmentally responsible companies to operate there and increase our domestic supply, China , who has a dismal environmental record, is preparing to suck our close, lucrative oil reserves dry. Enough to make you mad.

Everyone have a fun and safe weekend. I plan on being out at Golden Triangle Gun Club range this weekend, pounding away with my new Kel-Tec PLR-16. I will give you a report next week.

Cock fighting and drugs, guess they go hand in hand. I've been to a cock fight in Hackberry, Louisiana about 30 years ago, just beer drinking, no drugs. Oh how times have changed.
